Data Quality Assessments

Data Quality Assessments (DQAs) are essential to ensuring that MEL indicators accurately measure what they are intended to track. I have conducted DQAs for clients, particularly for Economic Growth and Education indicators, following the five key criteria: Validity, Reliability, Integrity, Timeliness, and Precision.

I am well-versed in understanding indicator definitions and can effectively assign ratings to indicators based on targeted questions posed to MEL teams to assess compliance with DQA standards.

A thorough DQA process requires a detailed review of key documents, including indicator reference sheets, which provide critical details such as indicator definitions, calculation methods, reporting frequency, responsible parties, reporting timelines, targets, baselines, and any modifications made over time. Reviewing reports that include the indicator’s reported values, along with an examination of the data management system, is also crucial for identifying inconsistencies and ensuring alignment between reported figures and recorded data.

When a DQA identifies gaps or areas for improvement, conducting a post-action review is important to support MEL teams in addressing recommendations and ensuring adherence to DQA requirements.

I have been involved in drafting final DQA reports, providing quality assurance on existing reports, and completing DQA checklists, which supplement final reports by offering clients detailed insights and recommendations for improving indicator quality.
